How to prepare for Update and Maintenance Break in Clash Of Clans.

There are different kind of Updates and Maintenance Breaks in Clash of Clans – some bring new features, some Evens, some a Gem Boost and some are only for maintenance. In this post I will show you what you should do when you see the alert message.

The important thing is not only knowing when it will be – you can get some real benefits from preparing right from it, depending on what kind of Maintenance Break is just about to happen.

The different Clash of Clans Maintenance Breaks

Clash of Clans is a mobile game where all game graphics and logic is on your smartphone but your game progress is saved on the server(s) of Supercell. Also the matchmaking and everything related to interactions with other player need a server connection so everytime something has to be done we’re forced into a maintenance break which stops us playing Clash of Clans. In fact there are 4 different kinds of Maintenance Breaks in Clash of Clans.

Content Update

Every 2-3 month there’s a new Update with new features for Clash of Clans. About 1 week before the Update Supercell announced the features with so called “Sneak Peeks” and on the Update day the game is forced into a Maintenance Break for quite a while because the new content needs to be updated on the server.

How to prepare for an Update?

It depends on what new features, buildings or troops the update will bring. Best preparation is checking out AllClash  In detail there are some simple thing I always do when a new Update is incoming in the days before the expected Update Day:

• Saving resources (Gold/Elixir/Dark Elixir) depending what I will need most. When there will be something new like the Dark Spell Factory I know I will need a lot of Elixir building it and Dark Elixir to upgrade the new Spells.
• Never Upgrade to a max Level when a new max Level is coming! As an example I take the Archer Tower Level 13 last year. When it was introduced the Upgrade to the Archer Tower Level 12 got cheaper. The same for Barbarians and Archers, Dragons, Giants, etc.
• Be available as soon as the Maintenance Break is over. Golden Hour time! (see below)

Events

About 2 times a year there is a special Event which focus on one or two Troops and give them reduced training times and costs. For example the Hog Rider and Balloon Event lately or theWizard Event last year.

There is no special preparation for these events because they normally come out of nothing. Simply enjoy the reduced training times and costs.

Gem Boosts

Sometimes, like right now at the beginning of August, there are 1 Gem Boosts.

Server Maintenance Break

Most of the time we see a Maintenance Break happening it’s because Supercell needs to add, improve or maintain the gaming server. Sometimes it’s a little frustrating when you sat down and boosted your Barracks and then walked into a Maintenance Break but always keep in mind that Supercell has to (and also does) ensure that we’re experiencing a gentle gaming experience.

With more than 100 million installations this is a challenge and they have not that much Maintenance Breaks. Most online based games have such breaks once a week for a couple of hours. No need to prepare and it’s often finished after a few minutes

The Golden Hour

The Golden Hour is something beautiful and, like mentioned above, something you have to use. The Golden Hour is nothing else than the time directly after a content update because somehow Supercell brings back lots of (if not all) bases that are normally removed out of the player matchmaking due to inactivity. This means you can get millions of loot very easily but after about 1 hour all those bases have been raided.
